Raw coastal beauty calling
I wanted to share more on how Albany captured my heart, and has become my a place that really speaks to my senses.
Last month I shared a little glimpse of what photographing women in Albany felt like, so I thought it would be good to share some more of how it captures me.
As a photographer, I have a heart for women, and a soul for our natural Australian landscape – a raw, untamed beauty. Perth and surrounds have always provided hidden gems, tucked away down dirt tracks and across cragged hills.
It fuels my creative fire
My photographic passion. Keeps the spark between me and the camera, I guess.
I have this love for photographing women in nature – a beautiful dress that moves with the elements and creates this beautiful contrast against what can be quite a harsh environment in Australia.
In places, rocky, sun beaten yet with this sense of peace and calm that feels fragile, like it might just break into tears with a looming storm overhead. Maybe its a good reflection of what motherhood and life can feel like – so I appreciate the peace and the sun and the light when it comes.

A lot of time goes into finding locations
Beautiful destinations around Western Australia that fit the brief to connect women and nature in this beautiful relationship. For me, it’s where photography manages to capture the vulnerability and strength of both the subject and their surroundings.
And that is partly how I came to fall in love with choosing Albany as a photographic destination for clients.
Sometimes, Chris, the kids and I go to Albany, and at other moments, I have just gone alone.
To reconnect to myself, and to the work I love to do.

photography THAT INVITES YOU TO FEEL CONNECTED
Perhaps you can relate to that – the reconnecting and remembering who you are.
Albany provided this beautiful opportunity to really soak in these contrasting elements where the past and the present seem to dance with each other.
Ruins from the early 1900’s exposed with all their vulnerability to the elements, yet still standing with their strength, weathering storm after storm are the perfect backdrop for women with this internal strength, and yet choosing to be vulnerable allowing their beauty to be photographed.
Photography in Albany is becoming a haven for my creative heart
To explore and expand, and continue to grow within my own self.
There’s something so beautiful about it, and connecting with the women and families from the southern coast of Western Australia that has me keeping it on my calendar for bookings.
Who knows, maybe if you are looking for a getaway with your family, and wanting to capture your holiday spirit, or really reconnect with your femininity and the beautiful stage of life you are in..maybe when in Albany, the stars might align and we will find ourselves there on a shoot together – capturing beauty.
It really feels like a place where love stands the test of time, where we get to breathe and just be, and where we can hold these photographic love songs between the past and the present, and the strong and the soft.
Let me know your favourite image & what feelings it evokes in you.
Until next time,
.
With love
Mel xoxo
